The Corfu Reading Society is the oldest cultural institution in Greece, in continuous operation since 1836. It possesses a rich, specialized, and constantly expanding library (over 50,000 volumes, including rare editions from the 16th-19th centuries), as well as unique collections of various archival documents (manuscripts, maps, newspapers, artworks, photographs). The combination of these collections with the unique atmosphere of its premises makes it an attractive research center for a wide range of domestic and foreign researchers and visitors. Thus, it continues to be a bright intellectual lighthouse and a steady point of reference for the cultural affairs of the region, highlighting Heptanesian Culture in all its aspects, as well as Greek and European Culture in general.
