Cricket, a team sport originating in 16th-century England, has been an integral part of Corfu’s identity since 1823. The first official match took place on St. George’s Day in 1823 between British officers, but the locals quickly embraced it, turning it into a unique local tradition.

Today, Corfu remains the heart of the sport in Greece, hosting the Hellenic Cricket Federation—the only national sports federation based outside Athens.
