Neos Marmaras was founded on August 1, 1924 by refugees, originating from the island of Marmaras in the Propontis. Until the end of the 60s, several residents from the neighboring Traditional Settlement, Parthenon, also settled in the settlement. The village developed by leaps and bounds in terms of tourism after the construction of the Porto Karras hotel in the 60s.

The church of Holy Archangels dates from 1937, while the chapel of Zoodochos Pigi is also interesting.

Paschalakeio is a two-story stone building that houses the Cultural Folklore Association PROIKONNISOS of N. Marmaras as donation of Dimitrios and Artemisia Paschalakis. Those who visit Paschalakeio will watch a video with the history of the village and will be guided through the exhibits-memorials of the local people of N. Marmaras.

Our mission is to describe the difficulties faced by the refugees from Propontida when they settled in N. Marmaras and how they kept alive the memories of the lost homeland.
